hey all!
NJL's back!

i've lost touch with the table tennis world since i passed the baton to esther and yanlin 2months ago. and the most shocking news that i'd found out is that...

LiXiaoXia had replaced her senior ZhangYiNing to be the world champion.

Phew, that was kinda shocking.
at least, to me. since i was a loyal ZYN fan. hahah.

like what we've discussed earlier on,
who will be the future sucessor of ZhangYiNing,
GuoYue or LiXiaoXia?
It seems that the answer is rather clear now.

Even though guoyue had been shining brighter than xiaoxia all these years,
xiaoxia managed to catch up.
hmm, but i think it's other a matter of time xiaoxia will drop back to her original state again, since there were also cases where guoyue managed to replace ZYN to be the world top player for a few weeks, so i guess this wont last for long.

the reigning champion will always be the reigning champion.
姜还是老的辣！

but still, i hope to see a new champion being crowned.
who will it be?

To know better why Liu Guodong is leaving,
read this

Liu Guodong, the man who coached the women’s table tennis team to a silver medal at the recent Beijing Olympics, has rejected the new contract offered to him by the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA).
Liu Guodong thinks he should get at least US$9,000 a month and when the STTA offer did not match it, he told a local newspaper:
“They told me to take it or leave it. I refuse to be bullied by this kind of attitude any more. What they have put on the table is simply insulting and insincere. They are forcing me to leave.”For him to say, in these economic times, that $9,000 a month is insulting, is…insulting. He then contradicts himself: “Money is not the most important thing to me. What is more important is that I get the recognition that is due to me.”
So it’s not about money, but anything less than US$9,000 a month is insulting. Which is it?
We shouldn’t be surprised that this would happen. After all, the national table tennis team is essentially set up like a professional sports team. Hire the best coach and players money can buy except for the best ones China hangs on to, bump them up the citizenship queue, and hope for the best. In this case, the team won an Olympic silver medal.
After the Olympic flame was extinguished, the capitalist flame gets lit. In Liu’s case, it’s a raging inferno. Having used Singapore, Liu Guodong now has a larger market for his services and he is selling his services to the highest bidder. It’s time to cash in.
The old International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rules regarding player eligibility is the source of Singapore’s problems. The rules were so liberal that Chinese players who couldn’t make it to their own national team would show up playing for another country.
The recent Beijing Olympics saw China-born players take up 25% of all playing slots under different country flags. The ITTF, realising this was all becoming a bit of a joke with Chinese players representing Congo, the Dominican Republic and Austria, among other countries, tightened the rules.
From September 1st, 2008, players aged over 21 years old cannot play for their new country at World Championships and World Cups. In other words, Feng Tianwei, 22 years old this year, and who received her citizenship only in January 2008, would not have been eligible to play for Singapore if those rules were in place just a year earlier.
The table tennis players bring up a mixed bag of emotions. While they are technically flying the Singapore flag, they have not assimilated. Hence, some segment of Singaporean society just find it difficult to embrace them. For some of us, we can’t even talk to them because of language barriers.
To top it off, the players get monetary awards from public coffers and meritorious awards from the president on behalf of society. It doesn’t sit well because in some minds they are seen as just professional players who are here to do a job, and when they are done, they leave, as in the case of Li Jiawei who is reportedly making plans to return to Beijing to marry and study.
At the Beijing Olympics homecoming celebration, Liu Guodong had said:
“I have been working in Singapore for two years and eight months, and in my time here my affinity for the country has deepened. I came from China and Singapore gave me the platform whereby I could help the table tennis team to a silver medal, and for that I am truly grateful to Singapore.”
It is unfortunate his gratefulness doesn’t seem to allow him to take less than US$9,000 a month.

Hellos, est is back here man. After what seemed like eternity.

Met up my friend[who has some relations in stta], and we talked.

LIU GUO DONG has left.

Aw, that's really sad man. But i think it's reasonable for him to leave. I personally think his salary of $4500, which has risen to $6300 after much consideration by stta, is fairly low for a proficient coach like him who has helped us win the silver medal. Besides, that did not take into account of accommodation and food. I would feel so pathetic if i were him. The salary did not even meet the national standards. In other countries, coaches earn about $13000. Well, it's an innate human nature to be materialistic. Who can blamed him?

So, all the best to him in whatever country he is gonna help.

Luckily, tianwei is definitely staying. Actually, even if she does wanna leave with her favored coach, the ittf wouldn't allow it. There is a rule that a player must be attached to the country for 4 years.

And yes, many would have known about it already, she is world no.7 now, soaring from the previous no.9. Tianwei displaced compatriot yuegu. Wow, what a paradox.

Here are the rankings:
no.6: lee jia wei
no.7: feng tian wei
no.8: wang yuegu.

The fact that tianwei won over yuegu and no.2 guoyue to finished 3rd at last month's women's world cup contributed to her surge.

Just 14 months ago, she was ranked no.73.

That's a remarkable improvement.

Hopefully, she can gain experience from her failures in the china table tennis super league and further advance to be on par or better than jiawei. In which, i believe she eventually would. It's just the matter of time.

No offence to jiawei's fans, but i seriously think tianwei would surely surpassed her someday. Age is catching up with her and she has been rather stagnant in table tennis, concentrating more on her studies now. Really, chill.

She is now in hometown, my friend is not very sure either, but she revealed that her mother is ill, so tianwei went to visit her.

" Women’s team coach Liu Guodong rejected their offer of a fresh two—year contract late last week and, already, they have lined up six candidates as a possible replacement.

The haste is necessary. The 2012 Olympics are already on the horizon and 2008 women’s team event silver medallists Li Jiawei, Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei will soon need to embark on a training and competition programme geared towards another joust for glory in London.

No doubt all the candidates have world—class resumes, but it will not be easy for a new coach to develop the same kind of rapport with the players as Liu has been able to do over time.

But tough decisions are unavoidable in the world of professional sport, and STTA president Lee Bee Wah and her advisers will just have to trust their instincts and hire the man or woman they feel can spark the team to even move up to the next level.

Perhaps Lee and her team can use the impending departure of Liu to their advantage. It could well be the perfect opportunity for them to start work on creating a new environment at the national sports association.

Already, STTA chief executive officer Chew Soo Sheng has revealed that they will draft in the Singapore Sports School’s Pang Xuejie and Zena Sim into the men’s and women’s national squads, respectively.

Till now, the STTA have not emphasised the development of local players, but with Pang and Sim’s elevation, it is the clearest sign yet that the new regime thinks differently.

Previously, the association also kept a tight rein on their stars, ensuring very little access to the players, both for the media and the public.

Singaporeans knew very little of Li despite her being in Singapore for what is 12 years already. They knew nothing of Wang or Feng, or the three men that represented Singapore in the Beijing Olympics — Gao Ning, Yang Zi and Cai Xiaoli.

Lee and her team must strive to make stars of their players. They need to expose them to Singaporeans, so that youngsters can identify with their heroes and strive to be like them one day.

Li, Wang and Feng are all graduates of Singapore’s Foreign Sports Talent scheme. Li arrived in Singapore in 1996 and received her citizenship three years later.

Wang arrived in 2005 and received her citizenship in January last year, while Feng became a Singaporean nine months ago, after arriving here in March 2007.

Li is 27, Wang 28 and Feng just 22.

While it is no surprise Wang and Feng have yet to be fully integrated into Singapore society, Li has been here for over a decade, a citizen for nine years, and it cannot be right that she can’t even keep up a conversation in English.

The previous STTA regime never felt the need for their players to embrace Singapore as their own country, the new management must.

Otherwise, there will be constant speculation over the future of the foreign talent in the table tennis teams, like the current situation surrounding young Feng.

She only received her citizenship in January and, already, there are some in the country who are predicting she will follow her mentor Liu out of Singapore.

It may well be unfair, but there are Singaporeans who feel the table tennis players are willing to tear up their citizenship over a change of coach!

The national sports associations with foreign talent graduates must work with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to come up with programmes and assistance schemes for their athletes to ensure they feel like they are at home.

Already, Lee, a Member of Parliament in Ang Mo Kio GRC, has indicated that the STTA and the SSC are working on a university scholarship programme for Li.

There is no doubt the authorities cannot get it right all the time. There will be foreign talent who take advantage of Singapore sports’ generous rewards scheme before returning to their country of birth.

But the foreign talent scheme is here to stay because it lifts standards in the country and opens the eyes of Singaporeans as to the sacrifice required to get to the top.

They inspire, like Tao Li and the women’s table tennis team did.

We must do our best to ensure the athletes are here to stay. "

I know people are really damn worried about the whole issue. But i don't think we should worry too much cos stta definitely has its best plans for the team. For that matter, i think we should look into the matter more deeply and not blame it on anyone. Lee bee wah will do what's best. I am sure she will make a wise decision.

It's all about the cry baby.

Good evening, est here. As mentioned in my previous post, i shall blog about the cause of all problems...gao ning.

It was all a joyous occasion, a few months back, when people were still engulfed in the heat of olympics. Not until gao ning played so atrociously, brawled over it, and astonishingly blamed it on the absence of his coach.

Of course, leebeewah's untimely announcement of dealing with those who were responsible for gao ning's lost, had trampled upon the blissful celebrations. But lee bee wah was just trying to make the team a stronger team.

If gao ning had not lost, all these wouldn't have happened. But of course, in life, one does not always win.

I bet many singaporeans were downright disappointed with his appalling performance. Gao ning, rank 12th, played much lousier than his team mate yangzi. Just because his coach wasn't here, it ain't no excuse for him to execute such an awful performance. Does he not have his hands, legs, or brains to play the match? Or probably, he relies on his coach's brain all the time, such that once that super mind is gone, he would have lost all direction. Is he a robot that has to listen to his master's command every time?

I so agree that without a coach by his side, gao ning is definitely at a disadvantage compared to his adversary. But after so many months of training, he could have put up a much better fight against a lower rank opponent. If his opponent was wang hao, i will not be surprised if he lose. Except, it was croatia's tan rui wu who was ranked so much lower than gao ning. And, even if he had lost, did he have walk away teary-eyed? Yes, i know he is in dismay, but omg, he cried in front of so many cameras, wearing the jersey printed 'singapore', he made it throughly disgraceful for us, singaporeans. As if losing so terribly is not abysmal enough.

Gao ning should shoulder most of the blame for his poor performance. He should not have blamed it all on the absence of his coach and whatever whatnots. Afterall, he was the one standing in the world's table tennis arena, holding the bat, and perspiring every drop that comes from his very own skin, in that battlefield. It was not his coach, liu guo dong, anthony lee, leebeewah or anyone else. They are merely backstage helpers to boost his moral, to give useful tips, or to help facilitate in his arduous training.

Besides, as i was watching part of the match[i did not had the chance to watch the whole match], during the game set point, gao ning did not even attempt retrieve the ball when his opponent serve it closed to him. And it happened quite a lot of times, whereby gaoning being 12th in the whole world, should be able to hit the ball back, but was probably too traumatized that his coach was not there. This can be evident as he lost 4-0 and the game lasted barely half an hour. He gave up immediately and did even make an effort to give it a shot. It was undoubtedly an extremely ugly defeat. That is way pathetic. What kinda sportsmanship is that? None.

I am sure if tianwei was to be in his place, she would have played hard and give it all, her best. She would have exude impressive sportsmanship that is worthy of our applaud. Hey, that is no wonder why she has so many fans right?

Shortly after, he push the blame to liu guo dong that he was used as a sparring partner for the female players. Like come on, in the midst of training with the girls, is he not getting train too? I bet the girls were much better players than him. He should instead be honoured to train with them.

And liuguodong did what is right to deliver success. He knows that the girls certainly possess much potential, therefore, put his attention more on them and ruthlessly used gaoning as a sparring partner for them. Which is rather wise of him, since nobody would remember those who finished fourth, might as well put in more energy on the greater possibility that the girls may make it top 3. Gaoning even said that because of this, he had been deprived of a medal in the olympics.

I speculate that even if gaoning was groomed, he is unlikely to bring us any medals, looking at that snobbish attitude and lousy sportsmanship he has. He would have to wait for another 4 years to prove himself, which may be a futile effort.

If i could find a video of gaoning vs tanruiwu, i would certainly put it up. But, argh, i cant find it.

So let's get back to liugudong. I am aware that many wants liuguodong to stay. If he stay, there is a high chance that he will assist singapore to win another medal in the 2012 olympic. Personally, i want him to stay too. I think he has contributed a lot, also, that tianwei would do absolutely much better under his coaching.

So, let's do a poll!

Liu guo dong's leaving?

Hey there! Est here reporting the latest table tennis controversial news. That is, i think, everybody should know by now, liu guo dong, tian wei's coach, is gonna quit and leave singapore!

You know, actually liu guo dong's resignation has got nothing to do with lee bee wah, in case many of you have qualms about it. Cos she only returned from overseas on monday, and wanbao had already revealed the news on sunday. Wanbao also contacted her but she declined to comment. Which means that lgd leave on his own accord. As in lee bee wah didn't brandish a knife and threatened him to leave. Yes, that is what i mean.

You guys can read the straits times, 14 october, under the sports section. Yep, the lgd's thingy is written there.

It's such a pity that he is leaving. Lgd play quite a prominent role in tianwei's success and in ending the singapore's medal drought yeah? And besides, he is skillful coach, and it seems like tianwei is quite close to him. I mean, look, without lgd super ultra great eyesight to spot tianwei amongst the other thousands of pro players in the rest of the world[mainly china], tianwei won't come to singapore. If she does not come to singapore, singapore would not have won a silver medal! And also, if lgd is not a good coach, tianwei would not be so pro too! So, ultimately, the real hero is lgd. Agree?

Aiyo, i really don't wish that he leave. Cos i foresee that tianwei would not play not well without his excellent coaching. They share a kinda special link. Is like tianwei must be really really grateful for him to spot her, to groom her to become such a phenomenal player. And without this very coach who is deem as the opener of her road to success, tianwei must be really sad! Aw...

But to think that the reason he leave is because he begrudged over the modicum amount of pay he get, i feel it's not valid. If he really does wanna stay on, if he is damn loyal to singapore, if he resolve to groom tianwei into a star player, i believe money would not be an issue.

But actually, he side of reasoning cannot be ignored too. Imagine you are quite a renown coach who choose to stay in singapore, a puny small country. And you have helped this country which is somehow quite insignificant in sports, to win a silver medal, after dozens of years. This medal has brought glory to the president, prime minister, ministers, whole of stta, fellow netizens, and even young innocent students like us. Like hey, ' i am the hero of the day. If not because of me, will all these wonderful achievements be possible?'. And yet, your salary is less than that of a consultant! You must be thinking: 'Eh, i deserve more la!'

So, i totally understand why lgd wanna quit. Yet, i just dont want him too! Argh, how confusing!

Next, he claimed that stta has taken away many of the decision-making powers that a head coach should have. With this kinda tight controll, naturally he would be unable to have any say and consequently, results would not be delivered. That's understandable! And stta told him to 'take it or leave it'.

But seriously, we should not take things at face value. Like what he say may OR may not be true.[ people on the news always say things to their advantage, so we should not readily believe what lies directly in front of us.] Maybe stta is reasonable, just that he, i dont know, probably suddenly feels like leaving. It is rumoured that he has been offered with many lucrative deals from other countries ever since he lead singapore's team to a medal.

People are volatile, you know.

Okay, i am being kinda contradicting over here. But i am trying to put myself into the shoes of well, different people, so that the issue would be looked at more judiciously, rather than to see things as it is.

Singapore's table tennis affair is way too controversial and dubious. It's rather palpable isn't it? From gao ning's episode to leebeewah getting flamed for making some unnecessary remarks to the fact that our medal was won by 'imported' talents. Wows, how happening.

But i am sure that all these arises because stta, including all table tennis fans, wants the best for the team, just that different people have very different views, and yeah, opinions may clash, and KABOOM, another uncalled for matter will resurfaced.

And oh oh, i think the very very first person who caused the entire stta and the team to be in a predicament, the very root to the problem is...gao ning.

Shall talk more about him tomorrow! It's getting late.. Not gonna go to school tmr, so i can spend the whole day blogging! Teehee...

I will do a lot more research on this whole thingy. Found lots, and i am trying my best to gather all the information. So, stay alert for more exciting blabberings!

A big hellos to fans out there! It's est! And i have been missing for too long due to irritating exams and hectic work. So, yepps, i am back cos i am finally freed from the evil clutches of examinations. Have been studying continuously non-stop 24/7 for 3 friggin' weeks! Yes, i was like a muggerobot.

But it dawned on me, while i was mugging, that tianwei goes through the same phase too. Like she has to painstakingly train non-stop too, and it must have been super tring for her! We can be inspired and motivated by her, to do well and work doubly hard like her!

So, to all tw fans who are still having exams, JIA YOUS! ((:
Actually, before you know it, all that mugging will come to an abrupt halt and you will be free!

I think we must really credit JL for consistently updating, and posting those really interesting videos. She has done her best, and has to grapple between schoolwork, so good job JL! Now, est is back, and she will be 'fallowing' for a while. Hahas.

I have been inert from the 'table-tennis business' for so long, and to come here, my passion is re-ignited! Watching those videos JL post, especially the match between yining and tianwei, it reminded me again of why i was so mesmerised by table tennis. It's because of the thrill of it, the high speed of that pingpong ball, the perseverance and focus of the players, and our cute tianwei!

Okay, i am so excited by the prospect of seeing tw play again. Ever since the competition in shanghai was over, news of her died out, and life has been kinda boring yeah?

But, don't pout! There is a china table tennis super league which had already started on the 4th october, ending on the 14th december. The various table tennis players are gonna represent various clubs. Tianwei, jiawei, yining, guoyue, and many many other players are gonna play. But all of them represent different clubs. (I didn't know about it initially until now, since i have been away for quite some time.) Er, i don't really know much of the details right now, but will update you guys more! Gonna do my research... I know i am a bit lag over here. Pardon me! For those who knows what's going on, please tell me!

So, let's once again be soak in the thrill of competitions! Jiayoo tianwei!

There is an upcoming German open too on the 19 November. I hope she has made full preparation and be able to clinch a silver or gold. Gold would be the best, since she has gotten a silver and bronze for quite a number of times. Even she said it herself that, she wants to stand at the top of the arena and experience what it feels like! Jiayoojiayoo!

hmmm, from what i've mention before,
in the 13september post,

that age matters alot to an athlete,
especially to athletes that have shorter lifespan, like swimmers, gymnasts and runners.
like for example, michael phelps,

i heard that he's not taking part in the london olympics in 2012.

he's only 23 years old this year and he's thinking of retiring?
like 0.0 OMG!
i mean, he's got such a bright future and he's like giving up?

well, i guess he'd got what he wanted and had already achieved his dreams,
8 gold medals in an olympics leh,
when Singapore didnt even have one.
LOL

he's name will be going down in history.
and he has fame and money that will last him for a lifetime.
so i guess if i'm him, i'll be doing the same as well.
haha

ohyeah, i heard that michael phelps only got like $200000 for winning 8medals?
while in Singapore, winning ONE bronze individual medal can equally earn as much.
i guess USA will go bankrupt if they would to do the same as Singapore.

but look at the amount of sponsorships and endorsements that michael gets,
that can easily fetch him a few million dollars!

so i guess retiring early is okay for him.

Our table table silver medalists received their prize money on Wednesday.
a total of $600000 which they will split equally among themselves.
and tianwei got her share too,
$200000 SGD.
which i think is more than enough for her to buy a big house in china for mother to live in...

an average table tennis player can only take part in 3 olympics in her life and the average age of retirement is about 30+.

the oldest player i've seen is the 39-year-old GaoJun from USA.
she's used to be from national team in china but migrated to USA in 1994.
Will she take part in the 2012 olympics?
well i dunno about that.

so i guess there's still hope for our 27-year-old LI JiaWei.

However, in china,
twice is more than enough.
and if you can take part in ONE, you are considered lucky already.

Why?

Because there are too many good players in china already.
and they can only choose 3 among the best.

which is certainly more than enough.

and had achieved 1 individual gold medal, 3 group gold medals and 1 silver medal.
she could had gotten another one but was unfortunately kicked out by our Singapore top seed Li JiaWei in the quarter finals during the Athens Olympics.

This shocked the whole of china during that point of time.
Imagine a Singapore paddler beating the reigning champion of the women table tennis in the quarterfinals.

which is equivalent to FengTianWei winning ZhangYiNing in the quarterfinals.
LOL.
a close shave, i would say.

WangNan is retiring after the beijing olympics this year.
Well, i wouldnt say that she had made a wrong choice,
I mean, her table tennis life is full of glorious moments and splendorous achievements,
so i guess she can retire without regrets?
LOL

one of the reason is also that WangNan has a billionare husband that can support her for a lifetime, even without her working.
haha

but i think there will be someone in the future that will break her record of 4gold in 3 olympics.
Zhang and GuoYue are potential candidates.

The world no.1 had already clinched 4 gold olympics medals in the Athen and Bejing Olympics.
and i wouldnt say it's impossible for her to take part in the London games in 2012.

The second candidate will be the rising star GuoYue.
GuoYue is only 20years old this year and she had already taken part in the olympics twice and had obtained considerable results.

things are going to get abit boring since tianwei's competitions are over.
so, JL's is going to start some discussion to spice up this blog a little.

okay, today's topic shall be...
天薇将代替李佳薇成为新加坡乒坛一姐。

hmmm, this dont sound impossible for tianwei,
since she's already like on par with jiawei in almost everything,
in terms of fans, age and skills(well, i'm in no position to comment on this),

so i guess i achieving that position should not be difficult for tianwei.
no offence to jiawei's fans.
but in terms to contributions, jiawei is still leading in front of tianwei.
even though tianwei is the new rising star, but we must not forget her contributions to Singapore.

okay, now let's start off with the reason why.
firstly is the number of fans.

well, that's the reason why i'm blogging now isnt it?
all for the sake of tianwei.
LOL

and by looking at the number of fans on the facebook webpage,
tianwei obviously have an upperhand.

haha, but i must admit that i was a huge fan of jiawei in the past.
i supported her in every competition and cut out newspaper aritcles of her every match.
well, i still have those articles now.

and there was once i showed it to her during the amk hub public appearance,
and she was like "八年前的还拿给签啊?"
but i can see that she was touched lah.
LOL.

but as soon as tianwei made her first appearance to the public during the beijing olympics,
i was so overwhelmed and attracted by her shy, friendly yet charismatic personality,
that I started to have this "tianwei" craze too,
HAHA!
so yeah, that's the reason i'm blogging here.

well, i'm sure that's why you all are fans of tianwei as well right?'

she's nice, cute, even though sometimes a bit shy, but overall she's friendly,

JL's here to bring you the latest news about our idol tianwei!

well,
tianwei should be on a holiday from now till the next competition which the German Open, that will be held from 19 to 23 November in Berlin.
and then she will be leaving for Macau ProTour Finals from 11 to 14 December.

So fans, if you wanna catch a glimpse of our beloved tianwei, do it quick before it's too late!
Because she will be only be back in Singapore at the end of the year.

awww,
sometimes, i'm really envious of tianwei leh,
for being able to travel all around the whole world,
able to represent Singapore for Olympics.
AND AND
for being able to meet star athletes like michael phelps!
(even though i'm not a huge fan of his)
LOL

ohyes, did you all noticed that micheal phelps have like over 1000000 fans in his facebook fanpage? and Zhang YiNing have like 3000+ within a week?
lol, no kid leh.

one week ago, i was like browsing through the facebook fansite and that point of time, Zhang only have like 200+ fans.
Then a week later, i went hopping again, and this time, her 200 little people had grown to a huge scale of 3000+ fans.
I was overwhelmed lah.
I mean, how did her fans increased so rapidly one ah?

But it's okay!
Other fc may win us in terms of manpower,
but in terms of updates, spirit and organisation,
we are way better than them eh!
hehe (i not living self denial!)

and if next time,
facebook were to give out the "best fc award" or something,

yeah, the champion for the panasonic china open is out.

In the end, GuoYue meimei lost to her XiaoXia jiejie.

of course lah, 姜还是老的辣。

okay, enough of nonsense!

ranked no. 3 Li XiaoXia managed to take her fellow compatriot, GuoYue down at 4games to 2 earlier this afternoon.
i watched both of the semifinals this morning.

Li Xiaoxia versus DingNing and
GuoYue versus GuoYan.

After watching the match between Xiaoxia and DingNing,
i realised that sometimes, your rank doesnt really determine your standard of playing.
It's true that some of the lower ranked players like fanying and dingning maybe actually better paddlers than some of the other overseas players.
It's prolly due to the fact that china have too many talents and the ones that are representing china are the crimp of the crop.
therefore the lower ranked ones would not be given a chance to represent their country.

DingNing is ranked 32 in the world but i can say that her skills can even matched our singapore top seed.
Well, i think it really depends on amount of opportunities you are given.
I mean, that's the reason why most of the china players are moving to other countries in search for more opportunities right?

okay, enough of that for now.
now, back to the match.
hah!

and i dunno why it's just so exciting to watch the china players play among themselves.
It always turn out to be a fierce and competitive one.
i mean, who doesnt want to be the best player in China eh?

yeah, no doubts, the hot favourites and the top seeds of this competition, LI Xiaoxia and GuoYue, managed to defeated their opponents and move on to the finals

haha, i must comment on Xiaoxia and GuoYue relationship with each other,
which is both "sisterly" and "rivalry".

catch my drift?

In the china national team, where everyone is competing to be the best and the competitiveness among the players are stronger than any counties.
GuoYue and Xiaoxia are always used as comparison with each other
because they just so happen to be about the same age and same ranking.

I think that's why people all have the same expectation of them.
-future successor of ZhangYiNing.
so i guess the pressure on them is very huge, always trying to outplay others and stuffs like that.

but at the same time, they are good sisters. (not because of my previous post!)
They are actually partners for the doubles game and roommates in their hostel.
and they are thought to be have very good relationships with each other.

Of course, at this point, Xiaoxia seemed to shine brighter than GuoYue,
winning the WWC 2008 and the Panasonic China Open.

But that doesnt covered GuoYue's achievement at the olympics,
obtaining a doubles bronze medal in the Athens games 2004 at the tender age of 16 and
a team gold and a singles bronze at the latest beijing games 2008.

hmmm, i smell some gunpowder.

who's gonna be the future successor of Zhang?
well, i cannot answer that question.

I know it's kinda disappointing to know that tianwei lost to the world no.23 FanYing 4-1 earlier this afternoon.
but it's okay,

well, i was quite shocked at first because i thought feng will win.
I guessed each player has their weakness after all.
maybe feng's weakness just happen to be fan's strong points.
or maybe FanYing's training with her boyfriend really worked!
LOL

hmm, i didnt watch the match so i didnt really see the both of them play.
I dunno why but ShangHai Gsports was broadcasting the match between guo yue and yao yan when feng was playing against FanYing
Obviously, the chinese took GuoYue more seriously than FanYing.

so in the end i watched the match between GuoYue and YaoYan,
and i ended up rooting for GuoYue too, LOL
i guess it's due to the fact that GuoYue resembles TianWei.
haha

and I'm not being biased here,
but I must say that GuoYue is really strong.
Sometimes, i wonder how did tianwei managed to defeat her in the quarter finals during the women's world cup 2008.
no offence please.

but the aggressiveness and determination that GuoYue showcased during every match proved herself to be the future sucessor of Zhang.
and if there was to be another candidate fighting for this position, It will definitely be her compatriot, the world ranked no.3 LI XiaoXia.

and this time, i've good news here.

TianWei went through the first round by beating the ranked no.(?) korean paddler Park Young Sook. 4-0. 3-11,5-11,13-15,5-11
(i searched the whole ittf ranking but could not find her record :/)

so tomorrow at 12pm, tw will be up against the world ranked no.23 chinese player FanYing.

In China where table tennis is common , FanYing is just another infamous paddler whom little people know
but the interesting thing about her is that
she is the former girlfriend of the men table tennis world no. 1 WangHao from china.
LOL

now, let me give you all a brief introduction of her.

Fanying's little known to others but she got famous through her boyfriend, WangHao.
They used to trained with each other in the past, so i guess her skills must be very zai.
i dunno why but she dropped out of the national team soon after their relationship is found out. something must be wrong, don't you all think so?
LOL

i guess you all must be thinking,
the girlfriend of the world no.1 paddler in china should be quite chio one right?
haha

i bet you all had never seen her before.

as you all can see, her ranking is so much above fanying,even though fanying is now back in the national team,
but tianwei's skill, near equivalent to a top china player, should be able to match fanying's one.
moreover, tw already have no problem playing against top china players,
so i guess fanying should not be a problem to tw tml.

in order for me to give fair and accurate comments,
i shall blog as a neutral body.
But i'll still emphasis on tianwei's performance.

well, i'm afraid that i just have to say "good luck" to feng tmr.

like what everyone had thought,
it seemed easier to win a olympics table tennis medal rather than a world championship title isnt it?
Why?
It's because in the Olympics, you just have to best three chinese, while in the World Championships you have to beat six.
and no doubts, this definitely apply to the china open as well, with 10 chinese players taking part in this competition this time round.

I know even without me mentioning, it's pretty obvious to see that this competition is solely dominated the by chinese.
so it will definitely be much more tougher for feng to claim a medal this time,
looking at the number of china players in the namelist.

the top5 players in the world, as well as in china
are all taking part in this competition,
which include zhang yining, guoyue, li xiaoxia, guoyan from china and jiang huajun from hongkong.
whom four are from the china national team.
(all are present except wangnan which retired after the beijing olympics games)

Zhang yining-china

She is all famous in the table tennis world, renown for that cool, expressionless look. This killer player has got great mental calibre. No one has beaten her before[or at least, i have not heard before], besides tw, in the asian cups. Zhang has got the x-factor. And players must have felt intimidated by her. I hope not tw!

Guoyue-china

Yesyes, jl is crazy over how alike she and tw are...I disagreed with her initially, but after i saw the photos she posted, i was like OMG!!! YES, THEY MUST BE EVIL TWINS WITH SUCH SIMILAR ACTIONS AND POSES!! HAHAS. And yeah, both are cute but hey, tw is cute all right?!

So, yeahyeah, amazing tw beat her, i guessed the entire world must be astounded over it. And gy must have flew off to china with much chagrin. Heehee.

I speculate that she has got a great relationship with no.1 zhang. This can be seen from the way they played doubles, perfect synchronization! And also, they just seem very close to each other la. Like when one of them win a match, the other will be damn happy for her.

Li fought her way through Volkswagen Women’s World Cup almost effortlessly, clinching a glitzy gold medal after easily defeating hongkong's tie yana in straight games.

I did not even know about her at first, but i kept wondering who was no.3. So this was that no.3 who was not really well-known, but had made a name for herself after the achievement at WWC. Really, i didn't expect her to play that well. But she sure resembles zhang. In terms of looks and achievement? She is deemed the future successor of zhang...

Wang Nan-china

Infamous for that all-smile expression. I like the kind of attitude she has, the way she will still smile gleefully, even after a lost. She is formerly no.1, but as age catch up, her ranking drop, she has to give up her position to zhang. I guess the 2008 olympic games shall be her last, given her age. Besides, there are many other young elite players in china, who can't wait to compete in competitions right?

Guo Yan-china

Do not confuse her with no.2 guoyue! Guoyan beat Wang Nan in three Women’s Singles finals on the ITTF Pro Tour succeeding in Croatia, in 2007. She does not seem to be a very prominent player, but who knows, in future, she may be comparable with guoyue, by then, let's not be confused over those 2 similar names players!

Hahas. It's a pity she got eliminated in the 1st round for WWC. I am not really a great fan of hers. That's because, i dont approve of her impatient playing. And look at those funny actions she will make after losing the ball! No offence though, to jw's fans. Jw has decided to participate in the London 2012 games, after declaring that she may not be.

She is the paddler who receives the least recognition. But her breakthrough in WWC as 4th, has shown that she should not be left out amongst team singapore. I think she has the same attitude as wangnan, since she keeps smiling.

In the WWC, jiang defeated li jiawei in four straight games. There are quite little news about her, so i will not say much.

She is responsible for tw's loss of at least a silver medal. Don't look down on this world no.10 player. Her recent win over tw prove that she is a no easy paddler. Furthermore, most may not know of it, Tie used to be world no.3 in 2006 but has fallen to a current position of 10. So, dont play play! Hahas, lols.

I really hate to say this, but the top 5 in the world are all from china! It's no wonder they win almost every matches!

Singapore, hong kong and south korea, who are quite competent in table tennis, pose a major threat to china.

There are unprecedented wins and losses [like tw beating gy, tie beating tw], so let's continue to be enthralled by this thrilling table tennis odyssey.

For those who are interested on when tw will be returning to spore, it will be tentatively on next monday, 15 september.

这次上来是想和大家澄清现在正传得沸沸扬扬，关于“小乐乐站”的新闻。

关于天薇写假博客的事件，这完全是冒充者的杰作。

Good evening fans! Est here to talk about the match again!

I am sure that by now, everyone would have already known that tianwei beat wang in the bronze medal match yesterday. And yes, we ought to be enraptured by it, even though it is not a gold or silver medal. But do note that, this is her first ever Women’s World Cup, so, a bronze for the 1st time is considered pretty good too yeah?

Also, with china's li xiaoxia, her chances of getting a gold are quite slim. China is too pro in table tennis. However, this is inevitable since they have a population of billions, the players selected have gone through many stages of selection, and hence, players taking part in the competition are definitely the 'crimp of the crop'.

Now, back to the really paradoxical battle between 2 fellow compatriots.

This was the third meeting between Feng Tianwei and Wang Yue Gu in international competition and all three meetings have now gone the same way- feng beating wang. [hurrays!]

It's kinda ironic since wang is older and should be much more experience than tianwei. But, tianwei is innately talented! And that would have explained achievements by her so far. Hahas...

Tianwei won in August 2007 when they met in the third round of the Women’s Singles event on the ITTF Pro Tour at the Chinese Taipei Open and she won again in June 2008, when the confronted each other at the Volkswagen Open China at the Women’s Singles quarter-final stage.
I think her ranking will go up! She is one, tough quick-learner and an amazing table tennis player.

What she said after the match:
"Yes I was very happy that I beat Guo Yue yesterday but I didn't expect to lose in the semi-final so easily!”
“It seems that there is joy then sorrow, I hope I won’t make such mistakes in the future in world title events.”

Indeed, learning from mistakes is the best part of life isnt it?
We should be inspired by her!

And now, tianwei's journey continue, to seek more experience, to discover in this wonderful escapade into the table tennis world...

Tianwei will compete in the Panasonic China Open in Shanghai this thursday!

so the results were out,

Amazing tianwei did us proud(?) by thrashing fellow compatriot Wang 4-0 in the bronze medal match.
Singapore versus Singapore.
A cruel fact to accept.
but still, at least a medal for Singapore.

and no doubts, the world no.3 Li XiaoXia won Tie Yana easily in the gold medal match and clinch the gold medal within 30mins.

This is no surprise as XiaoXia was thought to be the hot favourite throughout the whole tournament. The unexpected was that tianwei, who never once won guoyue before in any tournament, managed to take the world no.2 down 4-1, in the quarter finals.

don't ask me why, but they DO look a little bit like each other.

It's was kinda shocking to everyone, especially the chinese as guoyue is thought to be the future successor of Zhang YiNing.
The chinese, must have looked at feng at a different light now,
since she, being a infamous table tennis player, managed to defeat both of their top players Zhang and Guo, in international competitions.

I guess that must had been quite shocking news to the chinese fans in china.

Even Zhang YiNing once said,
"冯天薇以后将会带给中国球员很大的威胁。"

with such great potential,
i'm sure that in the future,

All friends and fans out there.
This is YuXin here, another blogger for this blog.
A dramatic lose for TianWei.

4-0. A unpredicted one.
Fans must be disappointed. Singapore must be upset.
However, Tianwei was definitely exhausted after such a long journey and battles.
Good game for Tianwei.
While we celebrate for her victory, we thank her for her effort.
Her effort make Singapore really proud.
Her lost will motivate her to do better, achive higher.

Through all these, full of ups and downs.
Standing on the podium, we cheered for her.
Losing the game, we support her all the way.

The match between Wangyuegu and FengTianWei is going to mark the start in approximately 15mins time. A fierce, yet friendly one. I will say. Two Singapore top players fighting for the 3rd position. A shadow of the Olympics for table tennis 2008. When China Vs China for gold medal.

A quick analysis of the two players.
WangYueGu.
Battling her way through to the quarters.
Looks to be in a fit state to do well.

FengTianWei.
Shock the world by defeating Guoyue, who has just won her Bronze medal.
However, may be exhausted after the countless competitions.
With her stability and hunger to do well, her chance of winning is still high.

IT'S SO DEPRESSING TO KNOW THAT TW LOST TO TIE YANA!!!

I had this foreboding gloom though, that she will probably lose... Cos seriously, tie yana aint no easy player.

I guess the all fans are rather disappointed...

BUT.

IT'S OKAY!!!

She still has a chance to clinch 3rd place, whereby she will contend over that bronze medal with fellow compatriot wang! Still, i can't help but to feel weird and yet anticipate over it. It will certainly be an exciting match!

Yeah, wish both of them good luck. Though i still hope that tianwei will win...

Its quite amazing for the world no 9 to beat world no 2.
She will be in the semi final.

Feng Tianwei comments on the match "The racket is slower and I cannot gain so much spin or power as usual. Of course the new glue is a big problem for both of us, so it was fair; today I was just more patient than Guo Yue,I had the feeling that she was a little anxious when she fell behind."

Guo Yue comment's "I made too many mistakes today; thee main reason I think is that at the low point on the curve after Olympics and I haven't trained since. You know, there was a series of activities in China for celebration; besides, today is just the second day to use to new glue and I havent been totally become accustomed to it, I could not play at my usual level."

It was the first time that Feng Tianwei beat Guo Yue.

Hi there fans! Est here once again to update you guys.

Fengtianwei has clinched a place in the semi-finals after having successfully and wonderfully defeating guoyue. She will be competing against hongkong's tie yana, rank 10 in the world, today.

I think this would be a tough match, though as compared to playing against guoyue, tie yana seems nothing. However, she is ranked world 10, while tianwei world 9, their rankings are so close!

Now let's talk about tie yana.

She has defeated south korea's defensive specialist kim kyung 4-3. Kim is rank 11 in the world. It's quite shocking as i thought kim would win, even though her ranking is just a smidgen lower than tie.

But tie is also an impressive player. In the women's single's 1/8 final of the Volkswagen ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals held in Peking University Gymnasium on December 13, 2007, Zhang Yining of China defeat Tie Yana of Chinese Hong Kong 4-3. Tie Yana made improvement in playing a controlled and safe topspin drive. It was such a close match!

Good afternoon fans and netizens,
JL is back here again to give you the latest report of yesterday matches.

Even though our amazing tianwei lost one match to Li Xiaoxia yesterday,
(we cannot blame her as her opponent is really good)

11-9, 7-11, 11-10, 11-6, 16-14.
(the last game was sooooo close!)

but she still stand a chance to enter the quarter finals if she manage to defeat the ranked 16 Li Jiao from Netherlands in her 3rd match this afternoon at 3.45pm.

Hmm, now, let me analyze her opponent.

Li Jiao, aged 35 is china born but she now resides in netherlands.
i've checked her ITTF record, and found out that she had little achievement under her name.
(sorry about that)

She had been the winner once for the European Cup (Asia did not take part in this).
and she did quite well for the doubles as she managed to clinch one championship and a runner-up for the ITTF Pro Tour.
But she was only in the round of 16 in the Beijing Olympics Games in 2008.

So I guessed compared to TianWei,
TianWei should have an advantage against her in this afternoon match.

Oh yes, TianWei and YueGu are the only ones left representing Singapore.
Wang YueGu won 2 matches straight yesterday against Daniela Dodean (ROM), 4-0 and Kim Kyung Ah (KOR) 4-3.

It was a close shave for Wang for her 2nd match, but she still, managed to take Kim down.
Well, i guess experience does matters. haha!
(i cant believe Kim Kyung Ah lost to her though :X)
so that means that Wang will definitely make it to the QF, even if she lose her last match against the Malaysian paddler Beh Lee Wei today.

But sadly, our top seed, Li JiaWei didnt make it to the quarter finals,
she lost 4-0 to the former china team ranked 17 GaoJun (USA) and 1-4 to the Hongkong ranked 10 paddler Tie Yana yesterday.
So that ended her journey in the WWC 2008.
It was unexpected of the Li as her rank was higher than the both of them and she had defeated them before in international competition.

I guess JW's really tired and wanted a rest.
It's okay Jiawei, as long as you've tried your best.
We will forever support you too!

On the last note,
players who are definitely making it to the QF includes the ranked no. 2 GuoYue and her ranked no. 3 compatriot, Li XiaoXia.

I'm really forward to a match between GuoYue and TianWei.
Ever since TianWei lost to Guo in the Asian Cup earlier in March this year,
I've always been looking forward to them playing again.
because i've been to the forum and i found out that people actually think that Tianwei plays better than GuoYue,
What do you all think?

so yeah, i'm pretty shocked to find out that Zhang had withdraw her application for the competition.
But that's good for us Singapore team isnt it?
now that the gold and silver medalist, Zhang and Wang, of the 2008 olympics games are not taking part in the game, i believe, that our singapore paddlers should stand a chance in winning.

well at least it's good for Wang Yue Gu, since Zhang is supposed to be in her group if she didnt withdraw her application.

Replacing Zhang in the game is the world no. 7 Kim Kyang Ah from South Korea.

Well, I've seen her go against our top seed Li JW in the Womens' Team Semifinals and i thought that she's a really defensive player.

Her stratergy to win the game?
Wait for her opponent to hit the ball out of the table.

We are all aware of Li's "always attacking" playing style
So i guess that's the reason why Li lost to her twice during the olympics in 2004 and 2008.

and you never know how happy I were when I knew that Kim was kicked out by Wang Chen from USA during the round of 16.
Even though it was a close shave, 3-4.
But still, since that she's out of the game, Li should have a greater chance of winning a medal since Kim proved to be her's nemesis.

So good luck to Li this time round! or rather Wang!:)

but i'm still abit sad that Zhang is not taking part cause i miss seeing her in action.
I like the way she plays,
so cool and calm yet swift and quick.
haha!

but still, i'm a loyal supporter of Feng too!

okay, enough of sidetracking.
now back to Feng.

Well, I think Feng may have a tough game to play since she unluckily fall in the same group as Li Xiao Xia, the world ranked no.3 paddler.

well, i think her name doesnt suit her, no offence XP
Feng met her thrice, i think, during international competitions.
but had never once won her before.

And among all the players, Li XX is one of the hot favourites to win this competition too.
the other candidate will definitely be her compatriot, the ranked no. 2 Guo Yue since Zhang had withdrawn from the competition.

I had seen Guo played against Wang and Li during the olympics games.
She's not called the future sucessor of Zhang for nothing i tell you.
Her style of playing is really aggressive and "manly", should i say.
Most of the balls that is thought to be "unreturnable" for most of the paddlers, she's able to return them with ease.

I must say that she's really a great player for her age, haha.
or she couldnt be able to represent China at the Athens Olympics 2004 at the tender age of 17.

but i really hope China will not bag all the medals this time again,
at least one for Singapore eh!
(even though i thought that the Chinese really deserve to win)

and last but not least,

heyhey people,
Feng Tian Wei will be taking part in the ITTF,
the volkswagen women world cup,
kuala lumpur in Malaysia from 6Sept(saturday)-9Sept(monday)

and and and
we've got info on how to watch the tv broadcast of the matches via the PC!

however, not all matches will be broadcasted.
The website will most probably broadcast the quarter finals and the matches onwards only.
but we all know that our amazing tianwei will definitely make it to finals,
so it's okay lah, right?

looks like all matches will be scheduled at around the evening, so it's good for us students and the people working. If you have a PC with a screen large enough, you can watch it together with your family!:)

*To watch please follow the following instructions.
(i got these info from the web so i'm not 100% sure whether the matches will really be broadcasted or whether the sources are reliable or not.
But you all can try if you all are really keen.)

First, you go to the ITTF website
and click on the itTV icon.
then click on the screen and you will be prompted to download an exe. file.
Once installed, you will need to open program from desktop shortcut and select the event you wish to view.
A little slow at first but it worked perfectly fine when fully buffered.
